Investigators are about to announce a significant breakthrough in the case involving the disappearance of Brooke Wilberger.
Police are not saying specifically if they have made an arrest, but they are giving every indication that Wednesday afternoon they will be sharing information about a major step forward in the case - a breakthrough culminating a year and two months of investigation.
Although it is not clear at this point what exactly they will announce at the news conference, most recently, investigators announced a connection to a green minivan tied to one of two key persons of interest. Police now say they know where that van is, although they have not said whether they have searched it for evidence.
Two months ago, police also wanted to hear from someone named 'Brian,' who placed a 911 call to report seeing a van of the same description erratically. The call came in about an hour after Brooke disappeared from Rickreall, a town located about an hour away from Corvallis. Police say they never heard from that caller, but have been able to move forward in the case anyway.
Two persons of interest remain in the case - one that police say came on their radar screen in December and another in February or March. Police have specifically indicated that one of these persons of interest is not a threat to the public, meaning that person may already be in jail for a crime unrelated to the Brooke Wilberger case.

PORTLAND, Ore. -- Police in Oregon said a man held on rape and kidnap charges in Albuquerque has been charged with the murder of a university student who disappeared from a Corvallis, Ore., apartment complex more than a year ago.
Corvallis police Lt. Ron Noble confirmed Joel Patrick Courtney, 39, has been charged with killing Brooke Wilberger, 19.
Noble said Wilberger has not been found.
Courtney is in custody in Albuquerque. He was arrested in Albuquerque last November after being accused of kidnapping and sexually assaulting a foreign exchange student at the University of New Mexico. He's awaiting trial in that case.
Jail documents show he was still in jail when he was arrested in the Wilberger case.

Oregon Student Vanishes In Broad Daylight
Brooke Wilberger vanished May 24, 2004Police believe that Brooke Wilberger was abducted on May 24, 2004, while cleaning outdoor lamp posts outside the Oak Park Apartments. She was visiting her sister and brother-in-law in Corvallis, who are residential managers of the complex.
When police arrived, they found signs of a possible struggle leading them to believe she may have been kidnapped. Her sandles were found askew near a bucket of water. Her purse, keys and other personal items were left in her sister's apartment and her car was still in the parking lot. All this evidence together makes police believe she did not leave willingly.
Brooke had just completed her freshman year at Brigham Young University. She is a graduate of Elmira High School near Eugene, Oregon. Brooke is a devout Mormon, an honor student, an athlete and described as very responsible, reliable and likeable by her friends and family. She was last seen wearing a hooded sweatshirt, a gray Brigham Young T-shirt, dark blue jeans, small hoop earrings, possibly a silver watch, a ring with "CTR" engraved on it and no shoes.
