MONTREAL -- A 15-year-old boy was found guilty yesterday of armed robbery in a violent carjacking that involved an attack on an elderly woman.
The boy, who was 14 when the incident occurred last January, was acquitted on several other charges, including theft.
Martha Taylor Gregory, 64, was attacked by four youths outside her seniors' residence and was stabbed three times in the back.
Her car was also stolen. She has since recovered from her wounds.
The three other youths charged in the case have pleaded guilty. Under youth protection legislation, the names of the four cannot be published.
Court has been told how the four youths drove around in a stolen minivan before arriving at the parking lot where Taylor Gregory, who uses a walker, was preparing to get into her car before she was attacked.
The court also heard evidence the youth asked his friends not to do anything to the woman as they prepared to steal her vehicle while she was removing ice from her windshield. The 15-year-old took over the wheel of the minivan as two of his friends jumped into the victim's car.
Acting as a getaway driver made the youth part of the armed robbery, youth court Judge Nicole Bernier said yesterday in delivering her verdict.
