TORONTO -- Police have arrested a man in a horrific case of child abuse first spotted by an alert Toronto bus driver.
Cedric Wilson, 31, was apprehended in Toronto after a Canada-wide warrant triggered a search that extended to Montreal.
Last week, a six-year-old boy was hospitalized with burns and massive head injuries after a transit driver called police upon seeing the boy, his mother and a man board his city bus. Officers described it as one of the worst cases of child abuse they had ever seen.
The boy remained in critical condition last night.
Wilson, who is accused of aggravated assault, was also wanted in connection with a gunpoint hostage-taking in Toronto earlier this year.

TORONTO -- A close-quarters gunfight broke out on a city street early yesterday after two Toronto police officers fired back at the occupants of a car who shot at them after being pulled over.
Not only did both cops escape injury, but there's no evidence any of their bullets found the mark, said Staff-Sgt. Gary Mulholland.
Mulholland wouldn't say exactly how many shots were fired.
The two officers stopped the car just before 1 a.m. and while they were talking to the people in the car, at least one of the occupants opened fire. The two cops fired back and the car drove off.
Two people were taken into custody and they're facing weapons charges, Mulholland said. They're not believed to be the gunmen, though, and two other men are sought.

TORONTO -- Ontario's regional coroner for Hamilton has increased to six the number of deaths being probed for possible links to counterfeit heart drugs that were allegedly dispensed at a local pharmacy.
Dr. David Eden said yesterday he anticipates there will be an investigation into whether the newest death to come to light is related to allegations that fake tablets of the heart drug Norvasc were dispensed at the King West Pharmacy in Hamilton.
Police descended on the pharmacy last week after a woman discovered an oddly coloured pill in her supply of Norvasc. Analysis by the manufacturer found the suspect pill to be made from talcum powder.

TORONTO -- Dwayne Taylor was fatally shot during a downtown celebration in what police believe is a deadly internal gang quarrel.
A man was charged with murder shortly after the 4:30 a.m. Sunday shooting in the midst of about a thousand Caribana revellers and cops at Yonge-Dundas Square.
Both the victim, 21, and the suspect allegedly are linked to the same Brampton-based Crips gang cell, police sources told Sun Media.
That could explain the brazen attack in which witnesses said they heard three shots, despite the presence of a large number of officers.
The slaying was also captured by police video in a pilot project to watch large gatherings with cameras.
Ajibe Stewart, 24, of Mississauga, is charged with first-degree murder.

TORONTO -- An Ontario disciplinary committee has found that a Sault Ste. Marie, Ont., doctor sexually abused two patients.
The College of Physicians and Surgeons ruled that Dr. Anthony DeLuco behaved unprofessionally when he fondled the buttocks of one patient and engaged in a three-way sexual encounter with another.
A patient had complained the 57-year-old family physician had touched her rear end during a medical exam and later gave her a pornographic videotape.
Another patient accused him of having group sex with a patient and her neighbour while children played downstairs.
The college will discipline DeLuco on Sept. 7.
At one point before the five-member disciplinary panel, DeLuco had to defend himself by describing in vivid detail the correct curvature of his thingy.
One patient said it "crooked" sideways when he was aroused.
But he insisted that it in fact bent inward.

Robinson's mother, Colette Robinson, 42, was charged with being an accessory after the fact.
Oraha had gone to the apartment building on Lisa St. to visit his girlfriend when he was killed. His girlfriend was there at the time of the murder.

Oraha's best friend, Adrian Roy Baptiste, 21, was killed while sitting in Oraha's car on Lightwood Dr. in Rexdale in December 2003.
Baptiste was killed 10 days after he was acquitted of second-degree murder in another case.
In March 2004, Pinnock was charged with robbery, assault, and possession of a firearm by York officers in connection with a February 2004 shooting where a 26-year-old man was hit in the leg in a robbery at 260 Davis Dr. in Newmarket. He is being sought for violating conditions of his release on those charges.
Anyone with information on Pinnock's whereabouts should call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
