14-year-old held for sex assault
A 14-year-old Yellowknife male youth is in custody until a court appearance this afternoon in connection with an alleged sexual assault on a passed-out 15-year-old girl.
The 14-year-old, who can't be named, has been charged with sexual assault and breach of probation under the Youth Criminal Justice Act for an unrelated property crime.
He is scheduled to be in court at 4 p.m. today for a show-cause hearing.
The alleged assault took place early Saturday morning. The victim and the accused were drinking with friends near St. Patrick high school, said Sgt. Darcy Fleury of the Yellowknife RCMP.
"She passed out and the offence took place," Fleury said.
Just before 2 a.m. Saturday, Yellowknife RCMP got a call about a woman passed out in a bush by the school.
When police arrived, they found the teen had been sexually assaulted. She was taken by ambulance to hospital, where she stayed overnight.
