UISVILLE -- A late-night methamphetamine lab bust landed two people in jail Wednesday. Video Police Find Alleged Sex Offender The bust happened at a home in the 6300 block of Red Spruce Drive in southern Louisville, WLKY NewsChannel 32's Natasha Collins reported. One man was arrested on meth-related charges, and a second man who was in the home at the time already had a warrant out for his arrest. According to court documents, officers went to the home after neighbors complained of strange odors coming from the garage. After watching the house, detectives made their move just before 11 p.m. "I think a lot of people don't think it goes on in this backyard, but it goes on everywhere," a neighbor who asked to remain anonymous said. "I don't care which neighborhood you live in." Michael Coones, 37, and 22-year-old Aaron Hollon were arrested, Collins reported. Hollon was sleeping in the house and had a fugitive sex-offender warrant against him in Indiana, police said. LOUISVILLE -- A Louisville man was sentenced to seven years in prison after pleading guilty to sexually abusing young girls. Video Attorneys In Sex Abuse Case React Damon Sheckles entered an Alford Plea and asked for probation, WLKY NewsChannel 32's Natasha Collins reported Wednesday. The prosecution pointed out that Sheckles fathered children whose mothers were 14 and 12 at the time. "There has to be a message sent to Mr. Sheckles that he is an adult man and he cannot solicit young girls to have sex with him," prosecutor Carol Cobb said. Due to his criminal history, the judge denied the request for probation, and sentenced Sheckles to seven years. But his defense attorney said his client is aiming to turn his life around, Collins reported. "He is still a young man, just turning 32 next week, and he has seven children to care for," attorney John Keough said. "He's reached a point in his life where he really does want to take care of his children and build a new life for himself." www.thelouisvillechannel.com/news/4640106/detail.html

CUMBERLAND, Kentucky (CNN) -- A roof collapse at a Kentucky coal mine killed one miner and left another missing, a state official said Thursday.
Rescuers are digging through rocks in hopes of reaching the missing miner, who is believed to be trapped underneath rubble.
The accident happened Wednesday night at Stillhouse Mine in Harlan County near Cumberland, said Mark York, spokesman for the Kentucky Environmental and Public Protection Cabinet.
State police reported receiving a call at 2:37 a.m. Thursday.
The two miners were part of a crew of about eight men who were performing a process called retreat mining in which coal pillars that support a roof are removed, an official said.
