QUEEN CREEK, Arizona (AP) -- An Amber Alert was issued for two young children missing from their home where the bodies of their grandparents and an uncle were found slain, police said Monday.
The Maricopa County Sheriff's Office said 18-month-old Brian Cervantes and his 3-year-old sister, Jennifer Cervantes, were believed to be with their father, Rodrigo Cervantes Zavala.
The grandparents and uncle found dead late Sunday were relatives of the children's mother, who was not at home at the time of the slayings, investigators said.
Authorities did not immediately say how the three were killed or give other details. They described Cervantes Zavala, 34, as an "investigative lead" rather than a suspect.
Cervantes Zavala may be headed for the Mexican border, the sheriff's office said Monday.
The State Patrol notified the U.S. Border Patrol, authorities said.
Queen Creek is on the southeast side of Phoenix.

Fugitive Dad's Run for the Border A man suspected in the shooting death of three people in Arizona and the kidnapping of his two children was arrested Monday afternoon near Puerto Vallarta in Mexico.
An AMBER Alert had been issued for Bryan and Jennifer Cervantes, and police provided a description of their father, Rodrigo Cervantes Zavala. Police had warned local authorities that Cervantes Zavala, who is a Mexican national citizen might make a run for the border. Despite those warnings, he was able to make it safely across.
A car driven by Cervantes Zavala, and listed in the AMBER Alert, was stopped by Mexican officers at the border July 11. Those officers impounded the car as it was crossing from Nogales, Arizona, because the vehicle didn't have the correct paperwork.
Unfortunately, the Mexican border officer didn't recognize that the vehicle was wanted in the case, and the driver and kids were allowed to walk away. Cervantes was then able to hire a taxicab to a nearby motel.
Cervantes Zavala Caught, Kids Recovered Safely Officials aren't saying exactly how they took Cervantes Zavales into custody, but they were able to catch him without incident and found the children shortly thereafter. Police in Arizona say their suspect will be extradited to Arizona to stand trial on murder and kidnapping charges.
Mexican authorities found the two children at a different location near where Rodrigo Cervantes Zavala was apprehended, Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio said at a news conference Monday night.
The sheriff said information gathered from investigative sources in metropolitan Phoenix led to the arrest, declining to discuss those leads.
"Some of these sources took us to that location," Arpaio said.
Arpaio said deputies will fly to Mexico to return the children, both of whom are American citizens, to Arizona to be reunited with their mother.
The children, 18-month-old Bryan Cervantes and 3-year-old Jennifer Cervantes, appeared to be unharmed and were in the custody of Mexican authorities, Arpaio added.
