HOUSTON -- An Amber Alert was issued Tuesday for a newborn who police said was abducted by his mother from a Huntsville hospital after the baby tested positive for drugs, Local 2 reported.
Authorities said Cobey Corley was abducted by his mother, Samantha Corley, 24, from Huntsville Memorial Hospital on Friday at about 7 p.m., approximately 24 hours after she gave birth.
The hospital's surveillance video showed Corley leaving the hospital with Cobey. Authorities said she hitchhiked from the hospital and has not been seen since. Officials believe her family knows her whereabouts but will not release it.
According to the alert, the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services took custody of Cobey because he tested positive for crack cocaine when he was born.
Officials said the baby needs medical attention since he could be going through withdrawal symptoms, including seizures.
The hospital's surveillance camera captured Samantha Corley leaving the hospital with her baby.
Investigators said the mother took the newborn prior to him being released from the hospital to avoid Child Protective Services taking custody of him.
CPS officials said Corley suffers from mental and emotional problems, and is unable to properly care for the baby.
Authorities suspect Corley is in the Trinity/Huntsville area; however, she could have traveled to Louisiana.
Corley faces child endangerment charges and interfering with custody.
Police said two other children have been removed from Corley's care because they tested positive for drugs at birth. CPS placed them with a relative.
Anyone with information on Corley's whereabouts should call the Huntsville Police Department at (936) 291-5480.
