I am new to this board and thought I would drop by and say hello... I am 28 and I live in North Mississippi...
I can't but help to speak up about a matter that is very personal to me....I have read some of the topics breifly across the board...and it made me think of my own present situation... I suffer from Bipolar also known as manic depression...mine is so severe that I have had to change meds at least nine to ten time in the last three years...any way in my state if a person is mentally ill and they are harmful to themselves or perhaps to others the police picks them up and puts them in a holding cell....well many would say that would be for the best....but is it fair to the mentally ill to be treated as though they have committed a crime...no
Their is a lot of taboo that society has believed in for so long about mental illness that the when you do have a mental illness you are treated in most cases as though you are some sort of deranged killer....its not right to put a sick person behind bars because they are sick....we don't put diabetics in a cell, we don't put cancer patients in a cell, we don't put seizure patients in a cell so why do they put the mentally ill in one...not enough beds at the state mental hospital...thats bull I know for a fact that my state alone has facilities but no funding....why??? I have talked to my Lawyer (right now I am having to apply for disability because my condition is to the point were I can not work..) and he told me who I needed to go talk to...It s a crying shame how the mentally ill are treated...
Some cultures believes mentall illness is being possessed by the devil while others think that all mental patients kill steal and hurt others....
I can assure you that most of the seriel killers that have ever been caught were not sick with a chemical inbalance in the mind....yea they are sick but not the way I am.....and yes I will admit some mental patients do commit crimes, but not all of us....alot of misunderstanding goes on...I just had to get that off of my chest....
But on another note I think this site is a very important site and it talks on issues that needs to be discussed...
