The Black River Falls Police Department and the Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) are investigating an assault/attempted homicide that occurred on Wednesday, July 30, 2003, between 8:55 a.m. and 9:20 a.m. The victim is a 79-year-old male who operates a service station at 36 North Water Street in Black River Falls, Wisconsin. The victim was found lying face down in the garage bay of his service station. He had a depressed skull fracture, possibly caused by a crow bar or pipe. The victim also sustained several other injuries as a result of the assault. At this time, it is not known whether robbery was a motive, because several thousand dollars located in the service station remained at the scene. However, the victim was known to carry a lot of cash on his person, and no cash was found on the victim when he was discovered. Witnesses remember seeing an SUV-type vehicle, early- to mid-1990s, possibly red or maroon in color, at the service station near the time of the assault. A younger female with blonde spiked hair may have occupied the automobile.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Special Agent John E. Christophersen of the Division of Criminal Investigation at 715-839-3830 or Investigator Dave Frederick of the Black River Falls Police Department at 715-284-9155.

The Clark County Sheriff's Department and the Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) are investigating the homicide of James Southworth, age 37, of Medford, Wisconsin. Southworth had been hunting alone on the afternoon of November 23, 2001, on property owned by a relative in Clark County, Township of Lynn, southeast of Chili, Wisconsin. Southworth's body was located at about 7:30 a.m. on November 24, 2001; he had died as a result of two gunshot wounds to the back. Witnesses remember seeing a vehicle parked on Fairhaven Avenue, north of the closed bridge where Southworth's body was found, from approximately 8:00 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. on November 23, 2001. The vehicle is described as a silver/gray or off-white Nissan or Chevy S-10 style truck, possibly a late 1980s model, possibly having a light tan, beige or off-white stripe on the truck's side panel, low to the ground, with a light-colored fiberglass topper that also may have had a tan or beige stripe along its side. In addition, law enforcement is attempting to locate three Asian males, one wearing hunting attire, who were seen standing around the open end gate of that truck on November 23, 2001, at approximately 12:00 p.m. It is believed these individuals may be possible witnesses in this case.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Special Agent John E. Christophersen of the Division of Criminal Investigation at 715-839-3830, or contact the Clark County Sheriff's Department directly at 1-800-743-2420. Southworth's family and friends have posted a $50,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for his death.
